As we have more time on our hands than usual, it could be a good time to clear out the cobwebs of our Make-up Bags, and store away any Winter shades that will not suit this sunny, and warm time we are experiencing and entering into... As we can catch some rays we may have a little more colour to our skin, and won't want or need as much coverage or weight in products. Here are my recommended staple products for this Spring/Summer sunny weather! BB/CC Cream, Tinted Moisturiser, Mineral Powder - All of these products are light on the skin, and will give light to medium coverage, not feel too heavy on the skin in this weather. If you have a drier skin then I would opt for a Tinted Moisturiser, Combination or Normal a BB/CC Cream, or for an oily skin try mineral powders. Creamy Concealer - The reason I have suggested something creamy, as in sunny weather, our skin naturally dries out or becomes dehydrated quicker, so especially around the delicate eye area it would be beneficial to cushion that area with a product that can feed some moisture back into the skin. Bronzer - Oh the holy grail for adding the look of colour, health or sculpt. Any Bronzer, matte or with shimmer is fine for the Summer time, and is a personal preference whether or not you like little or more glow. Cream Blush - You may like to just use a Bronzer but I personally use both, for a bit of colour on the apples. Try a Cream Blush over a powder, it will add more moisture to the skin, feel lighter and will look more natural & glowey. Waterproof Mascara - A Waterproof Mascara, will add longevity around the eyes if they ether get rubbed or stream because of allergies, or you are being outdoorsy, or around water its just helpful to have an extra protective layer of armour. Lip Balm - Everyone loves a good Lip Balm, you could try one with a tint or without. If you are not into lip colour then something on the lips at least just finishes off a Make-up look, and will protect the lip area from becoming dry. Lastly, one more product which is really helpful in the Make-up bag during warm times is a Hydrating Face Spray, which can be spritz over the face and Make-up throughout the day to refresh and increase water levels from the outside, preventing Make-up sitting in the lines! There are SO many Shampoo and Conditioners on the market, how do we know which may be right for us? When I trained with Organic Colour Systems, a big part of the learning was going over the structure of the Hair shaft and what it can need to stay healthy and in optimum condition. Luckily this can all be determined through a simple test, called the Wet Stretch Test. If you divide roughly 10 hairs from your mane and make them completely wet, wrap them around two fingers and give them a tug at different points of the Hair shaft from root to tip, observe the capability to stretch when pulled:- If when you tug there is no stretch within the hair at all, this can indicate that your structure is strong, but you may require some moisture to soften the hairs out. If the hair is strong with a little stretch to it that bounces back and forth with ease, this suggests a balanced healthy state within the hair and means you do not need to use anything too rich or influencing on it to makes changes, so a gentle, healthy maintenance regime will do. Lastly, if the hair has quite a lot of stretch without bouncing back too much, can stretch far almost to breaking point, or possibly does break when tugged (remember I mean a reasonably firm tug, not strong a pull!) then you know your hair is pretty weak and requires a dose of protein to re-strengthen and re-build the structure. This simple 3 section guide has been priceless for me to be able to help clients with controlling, improving and maintaining any ongoing concerns they have with their Hair, so it can regain a happy, balanced condition again. Is it good to mix up your Shampoo and Conditioners? Well yes, our Hair can always do with a change, however try and apply this guide when buying alternatives, i.e does my hair need protein? Yes, so look for formulas containing protein and reenforcing ingredients. If you need any advice or guidance when purchasing new products, I would be happy to help guide you! There are so many beautiful fabrics out there, and so many amazing designers that create expressive Scarves, but in the Summer months, it can be a bit too warm to drape them around your neck. So wearing them through your Hair can look elegant, and pretty, especially if your scarf has some lovely colours in it's design. Like the girl pictured, Scarves can look great just simply tied around a plain ponytail and I think very cool with a pair of hoops. It gives a Spanish almost Roma edge to her look, however depending on the tones, they can be paired almost look, and could add interest to a plainish outfit.
If you have ever watched Sex And The City, you will know the episode which is all consumed by the stigma attached to The Scrunchie, especially as we get older, how do we wear them? Well my approach to Hair Accessories is to wear them in a sartorial fashion, groomed and chic like the Parisians do. If your Hair is mid length - long, and you want to tye it up, why not try one? They are feminine, and can add a youthful presence to your style, however if Madonna in the eighties is flashing through your mind, don't worry, I will guide you:
Fine Silk or Smooth Velvet - These fabrics have a luxury to them, so choosing a high quality, soft looking texture, has a better finish over a plain cotton one. Faux Leather - Is a nice contrast to that of the Hair, again with a touch of luxury, but more understated and cool. Goes well if you're wearing a soft textured top, as there's something about leather that just makes an outfit rock a bit more! In terms of how to wear one, it's best to style low rather than high - with a high pony we are getting that feeling of the throwback again, so low, either a halfway pulled through ponytail or a low ponytail, sleek or soft will look just right. Pull some pieces out from your front hairline, or from by the sideburns if you want to soften the severity of an up-do. Tres Chic! |
